Resource: Urbana Ohio Research

From the website of Urbana Ohio Research (link no longer available):

"Urbana Ohio Research is composed of a small group of international graduate researchers specializing in rural and urban planning, urban design and economic development.

We are currently conducting research regarding the socio-economic impacts of the Buckeye Wind/Everpower/Terra Firma wind development anticipated to be established in Logan, Union and Champaign (LUC) counties in Ohio.

The socio-economic impacts of the LUC wind development provide a research model to conduct advanced research aimed to inform future international planning policies, maximize socio-economic returns for communities, create genuine opportunities for democratic control, encourage community engagement and economic participation.

The project details of the LUC wind development were used to create an economic development model using the publicly available development application and other resources to determine the following local socio-economic impacts: job creation, local spending, lease payments, tax base and investment. In addition, the various costs of construction, wind turbine components and other project financial details were generated. Additional studies to determine the impact on households to expand the depth of the study is currently being examined for research viability.

Note: All research information and data was aquired from publically available resources. See resources for links to data and information."

What Can You Do?

We need to take action IMMEDIATELY to halt this project. The people of Champaign County are just now becoming aware of Everpower's proposal to change ALL of our lives forever. Let your friends and family know that this is happening without your consent. A project of this size, sited this close to people, is unprecedented. Are you prepared for you and your family to be an experiment? Especially without any meaningful due process, as is the right of every citizen? There are approximately 60 leaseholders (no one can be sure as the wind companies refuse to release the information). There are approximately 38,900 non-leaseholders in the county. Why are a few dozen people dictating the future of all of us without more debate? The only people benefiting from this scheme are a few leaseholders and a multi-national corporation, who has no plans to engage in any profit-sharing from the sale of Champaign County's wind. They specialize in pitting neighbor against neighbor and mak...

Editorial in the Urbana Daily CItizen

http://www.urbanacitizen.com/ news/editorial/5035999/ Turbines-imperiled-by- shifting-political-winds Turbines imperiled by shifting political winds After seven years of development, controversy and exhaustive legal examination, the two wind farms planned for Champaign County might soon be put on the scrap heap because of recent state legislation that discourages their construction. It’s too soon to say for certain because the proposed projects continue to be affected by ambiguity on many fronts, but EverPower’s comments to the Columbus Dispatch on Sunday sounded like the beginning of the end of Buckeye Wind. “It’s clear this development isn’t wanted here … and it gives us less confidence in where Ohio is moving forward,” Michael Speerschneider, EverPower’s chief permitting and public-policy officer, told the Dispatch . “We’ll take that message to heart.” After Gov. John Kasich signed legislation on Friday that stops increases in requirements f...

Living Near Wind Turbines Causes Adverse Health Effects

Source: http://www.theobserver.ca/2014/01/16/review-of-scientific-literature-found-adverse-health-effects ENERGY: -  A Lambton citizens group is hopeful that recent scientific literature that documents health impacts from wind turbines will provide ammunition in its battle against a planned wind farm. The review of existing research literature was published in the winter edition of the Canadian Journal of Rural Medicine and concludes turbines placed too close to homes "can negatively affect the physical, mental and social well-being of people." The group We're Against Industrial Turbines Plympton-Wyoming (WAIT-PW) is now touting the results in its efforts to lobby against Suncor Energy's plan to build up to 46 industrial wind turbines in rural Lambton County. The review also states there is sufficient evidence to support the conclusion that noise from industrial wind turbines "is a potential cause of health effects." Ontario requires wi...
